Alberta Beach conducts a general election every four (4) years for the following municipal offices:

* Councillor (5) positions

The next general municipal election is on Monday, October 18, 2021.

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.


Nominations Period:      January 1, 2021 - September 20, 2021 at 12:00 p.m.

Nominations for the offices of councillor will be received by the Returning Officer between January 1, 2021 and 12:00 noon on nomination day Monday, September 20, 2021 at the Municipal Office located at 4935-50 Avenue, Alberta Beach, AB T0E 0A0.

While COVID-19 measures are in place prospective candidates are asked to call ahead to schedule an appointment with the Returning Officer by phone at 780-924-3181 or please knock on the door. Face coverings are mandatory.

Qualifications of a candidate - A person may be nominated as a candidate in the Alberta Beach municipal election if, on Nomination Day the person is:

* is at least 18 years old;

* is a Canadian citizen;

* has been a resident of Alberta Beach for 6 consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day.

* Not otherwise ineligible or disqualified.

Sections 22-24 of the Local Authorities Election Act set out under what circumstances a person is not eligible for nomination. Anyone submitting a nomination is responsible for ensuring they are not in violation of any condition of eligibility.

Nomination Forms - Every nomination of a candidate shall be completed through the submission of Nomination Form and Candidate's Acceptance.

Each nomination form must be fully completed, and include the signatures of at least 5 eligible Electors. If a nomination is not signed by at least 5 Electors, the Returning Officer cannot accept the form.

Alberta Beach does not collect a deposit to file nomination papers.

The person who is nominated as a candidate is responsible for ensuring that the nomination filed meets the requirements of the Local Authorities Election Act. Facsimiles will not be accepted. Be sure nomination papers are filed on time.

Nomination papers must be accepted by the Returning Officer before a candidate can incur any campaign expenses or accept contributions.
